Keeping the women’s movement alive and sustainable in Wales

Specialist support for women’s organisations in the current climate

Don’t leave it to chance, the changes to supporting people, the push for generic services and the competition from non women’s aid providers could see our sector decimated over the next three years.

Change is with us and we need to engage and shape it or sit on the receiving end of someone else’s idea of what services for women and children need to look like.

Due to my current experience within, and my commitment to, the Women’s Aid sector in Wales I am able to offer, over the next 12 months, a special service specifically for women’s aid groups and organisations with fixed costs. I am also happy to negotiate costs with smaller groups.

We are all aware of the challenges that the current and developing political and financial environment that are facing us, and when we have the time and space we are aware that there are opportunities.

Fit for purpose seems to be the buzzword of the moment but what does that mean for individual groups and organisations, what changes do we need to make internally or relationship building externally?

Mergers or real partnership and collaborative working may be the most sustainable way of preserving the way that Women’s Aid wants to deliver services and it’s important that all the options are explored.

Here are some of the ways that I feel I can help you with these issues:

  • Come into the group/organisation and carry out a review not just of the processes and paperwork but of the culture and attitudes within the organisation (including the trustee board)
  • Carry out facilitated work with staff and volunteer groups and the trustees and senior managers groups to help get a clear vision of where the group/organisation wants to go
  • Work with staff and trustees to create an action plan for change and development
  • Help draft new documents (contracts, strategic/business plans, promotional material)
  • Where groups/organisations are already or want to talk to neighbouring groups/organisations about merger or partnership working I can be an independent broker facilitating engagement and delivering expertise in this area
  • Brief the trustee board and staff teams about the challenges and opportunities and how best their group can meet them
  • Create a one or two page web site to raise your profile to key stakeholders
